Non-Resalable Textiles (NTR) are a growing issue in the second-hand clothing sector, with thousands of tonnes of unsellable textiles collected weekly, much of which ends up in landfills or is incinerated.
NTRs include textiles that cannot be reused, recycled, or sold due to their condition, and handling them presents a complex challenge in waste management. ELT Global believes that government intervention is urgently needed to address this growing crisis. Solutions such as incentives for recycling innovations, stricter regulations on textile production (to reduce the +25% over manufacturing each year), and funding for more comprehensive waste management infrastructure could greatly benefit the industry.
As a company committed to sustainability, ELT is working to bring attention to the need for change and to develop partnerships that prioritize responsible textile disposal, keeping more textiles out of the waste stream and in circulation.
